About the Y

The Y is one of the nation's leading nonprofits strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Across the U.S., 2,700 Ys engage 21 million men, women and children - regardless of age, income or background - to nurture the potential of children and teens, improve the nation's health and well-being, and provide opportunities to give back and support neighbors. Anchored in more than 10,000 communities, the Y has the long-standing relationships and physical presence not just to promise, but to deliver, lasting personal and social change.

The YMCA has played a significant role in history in developing practical and enduring programs and assisting in the development of kindred organizations.

The programs and services of each YMCA are determined by local people within the communities they serve.

Community leaders serve on the YMCA Boards and determine policy and direction for their local YMCA.

Each YMCA is recognized as a non-profit charity by the IRS.

For Over 75 Years the Worthington Area YMCA has been serving the community.

In 1944 the City of Worthington and the YMCA partnered to create the first YMCA in the former Union Congregational Church. Founders included E.O. Olson, Harry Rickers, V.M. Vance, John L. Olson, Henry Hagge, R.W. Lowry, C.E. Stower and Alvin Graf.

In 2009 the YMCA opened its current location on the MN West Campus. After 10 yrs. of planning and construction of $9.6 million dollars.

This year we again are please to announce the partnership with Worthington Regional Healthcare Foundation. They will be matching up to $60,000 of the funds raised tonight to support families and youth in the communities. All money raised will be put to use locally to offset program and membership costs for those in need.

Our Goal is $85,000 and we are off to a great start with just over $8,200 raised at the Deep Freeze Dip.
